All this fightin’ makes a man bloody

Do you find stomping the heads of zombies is starting to make your character look a little messy? Well I do.

How do I clean clothes in Project Zomboid? The easiest way to clean your clothes is to simply find any kind of water source at in the game, (this includes sinks, showers and water dispensers), right click and select the wash option from the menu. You can select singular pieces of clothing to wash or select the wash all option which will clean every item that is dirty.

After selecting this, your character will start to clean all of their clothing one by one. Be careful, if you start to move away while washing you will interrupt the washing progress. Washing can be done with or without a type of soap. Using soap whilst washing will dramatically reduce the amount of time it takes to wash all of your clothing. As seen in the image above, you can also use this menu to clean any dirty weapon that you have equipped.

After cleaning clothes in Project Zomboid they become wet

After cleaning your clothes in Project Zomboid they will become wet. You should be careful not to go outside when it is cold and you have wet clothes as that heightens the chance of your character developing a temperature-based illness. You can also use washing machines to clean clothes in the same way, provided you have some type of water source connected to the washing machine and a source of power.

Now you have clean, washed clothes!

That is basically all there is to washing clothes in Project Zomboid. Obviously after the power and water eventually runs out in Project Zomboid you will have to find another source of both of these things. Get creative! Try different things out in the game and if you ever get stuck, you can always come back to me for help. 1. Hi, thanks for the tips. I am in Riverside and the water is shut off. I needed to clean up so I went to the river to wash. All the commands are there but the only one that worked was “Wash Yourself”. The others did nothing. Could not wash clothes, weapons, or backpack. Have you tried this? DO you have any other tips for cleaning?
Apart from the blood, which is realistic, I do find that clothes seem to get dirty fairly quickly. I wish they would tone it down a bit.

    • Hey Joe,

I’ve just jumped in and checked it out again but i can clean all clothing and backpack at the river. What version of the game are you running? I’m playing the Beta build 41 at the moment so maybe it was changed. I believe you had to have soap to wash your clothes in some older builds of the game. Maybe try that?

I feel you. My character falls over in the woods and suddenly every item of clothing is completely dirty. haha.
