How to Save the Game in 7 Days to Die

One of the most important aspects of survival games and games in general is being able to save your progression in the game. There is nothing worse than spending hours and hours in your favorite game crafting, finding resources and building things only to have all of your progress lost when you open the game back up. You will have to spend a lot of time grinding resources and building things in Zombie Survival crafting sandbox 7 Days to Die. One of the things the game doesn’t tell you is how to save the game.


How to Save in 7 Days to Die

In 7 Days to Die, the game will save automatically in single-player when the player exits the game via the ESC menu. When you exit the game the data is automatically saved. There is a way to manually save the game as well using console commands. To save the game, open up the console with the F1 key. Then, type in the command saveworld and press ENTER. The game will now save all of your progress.

The console is the place where you can type in many other different console commands in-game. These can be related to server settings, admin setting or other things such as the save game command seen in the image above. The console command for saving the game can only be entered on the PC version of the game. There is no way to manually save the game on the console versions of the game.


Where is the Save Game Located for 7 Days to Die?

If for any reason you’d like to view the save game for 7 Days to Die or transfer progress to a friend or another drive, I will show you exactly where you can find the saved game. The game saves each game you start into different world files and all of the information is included there.

To navigate to the saved games folder open up you folder explorer. You can open up any folder to get to this area. Now, go the search bar and type in %appdata% and press enter. Check the image below for a better idea of what I mean.

Now, open up the 7DaysToDie folder and navigate to the “Saves” folder. This is where all of your current save games are located for 7 Days to Die. You can use this method for finding save games for all of the games on your computer as they share a similar directory.

You can use these save games to send to your friends if they want to play on your worlds, or if you have to upload them to a server.


Why Manually Save the Game?

As previously stated in 7 Days to Die the game and the game’s world automatically. If you are playing the game normally the game will save when you leave. That being said there are multiple reasons that someone might want to save the game manually. One of the reasons is that every game is prone to bugs. You may have the data lost or corrupted. If the game crashes or if the PC was to lose power at any time while the game is saving there is a chance that your save game can become corrupted and no longer work. By manually saving the game every now and then, you can reduce the risk of save game corruption.

That being said, it also might be a good idea to back up your saved games if you don’t want to lose them. Navigate to your save game folder by using the method above and copy and paste it to back up the save. You will have to back up the save every time you play if you want the save game to stay up to date.
