How to Make Smooth Stone in Minecraft

One of the best things about Minecraft is the large variety of different materials and blocks to build from. Including many different types of wood, stones and ores there is almost limitless possbilities given to the player. One such item that you can build with in Minecraft is smooth stone.

Smooth stone, as the name suggests is a different variant of the base stone found in the game. In fact, you will need some cobblestone, and then regular stone to craft yourself some smooth stone to build with. In this guide we will get straight in to how to crtaft yourself some smooth stone in Minecraft Java edition. Since you will be crafting this in-game, you can follow this guide in any edition of the game you wish, be it Xbox, PS4 or Android.

If you have already played a lot of Minecraft before I would recommend skipping straight to step 4 of this article. This guide is also used to help new players and seasoned players alike.

Step 1: Crafting a Furnace

The first thing you are going to have to do if you want to get your hands on some smooth stone in Minecraft is to craft yourself a furnace. First, collect some cobblestone using your pickaxe. You can craft this at a crafting table by placing two sticks in the middle column in the centre and bottom square and placing wood or cobblestone in the top three spaces.

Now, go out and collect some cobblestone. By breaking regular stone blocks, you will get your hands on some cobblestone. To craft a furnace, we are going to need to collect 8 cobblestone blocks.

Feel free to go and collect more cobblestone as that is what we are going to use to craft our smooth stone eventually as well! Arrange the cobblestone in your crafting table so that they look like the image below. (Make sure cobblestone is taking up every space exceptthe middle space!

Now that you have arranged the blocks as you need it, you can take your furnace from the table and add it to your inventory! With the furnace in hand, feel free to place it down wherever you wish in your base.

Step 2: Collecting Cobblestone and Fuel

Now that we have a furnace we are going to need two things in order to make smooth stone, fuel and cobblestone. We already mined some cobblestone earlier but now we will also have to find a fuel source.

There are two easy fuel sources that you can get from the start of the game; wood and coal. Collecting wood is fairly straight-forward, hit a tree! If you have made it this far I am going to assume that you already have found some wood.

Coal however, can be found by mining out the blocks that look like stone blocks with little black dots in them. Check out the image above for an idea on what to look for when you want to collect some coal.

Stpe 3: Crafting Stone From Cobblestone

Now that we have some cobblestone and some fuel we are ready to craft some stone! Before we can get some smooth stone we will have to craft regular stone first. The method of making stone is very simple.

First, open up the furnace that we built earlier. Place the cobblestone that you have mined in the top box of the furnace. Now, place your fuel into the bottom space and then wait until your lovely stone is ready. The furnace will automatically craft as much stone as it can so you don’t have to wait around until it is done.

Your furnace will continue to melt the cobblestone on its own until it runs out of fuel or a material to process. Make sure you have a lot of each of these! If you don’t have coal like in the image above you can also place wood as a fuel source but this will not burn as long as coal.

Step 4: How to Finally Make Smooth Stone

Now that we have our hands on some regular stone it is finally time to get crafting somesmooth stone! As with the cobblestone, we are once again going to use the furnace for smooth stone. To craft smooth stone, simply place the Stone back into the furnace for another round of cooking. By that I mean, place the stone in the top of the furnace with another fuel source in the bottom.

The furnace will automatically start to process the stone into Smooth Stone. That is about it! Now that you have your hands on some smooth stone you can ddo whatever you’d like with it. Most people who build stone bases love to use this as it looks a lot nicer than the regular stone found around the world.

What Is Smooth Stone Used For?

Now that you have some smooth stone in Minecraft what are you actually going to do with it? Well, the obvious use case for smooth stone is to use the lovely texture to make some nice stone houses. In my opinion it looks a lot nicer than regular stone.

Another thing that you can do with smooth stone is to craft a Blast Furnace. A Blast Furnace is used much the same as a regular furnace, but can smelt items twice as fast!
