Armor plays a hugely important part in your success in Battle Brothers. Especially in the early game when your brothers may not be at their best. The difference between having your guys equipped with simple clothes or some nice chain mail is astonishing. With better armor your brothers can take way more hits and thus, you will save good money not replacing your tanks every few fights.
This guide will show you some of the ways that you can yourself some good armor early in the game and of course this will apply to the rest of your campaign as well. The main focus will be the early game however, as once you get further on in the game you will probably be able to afford decent armor for your best brothers.

Step 1: Acquiring The Tools
The first thing you want to know about getting armor in fights is that in order to get the armor from enemies, you are not allowed to break it. This means you will have to defeat the enemy without destroying their armor. The best way to do this is to use a weapon which damages the enemy, but not their armor. This would be the dagger weapon.
Daggers can be found as pretty common loot from raiders. You will also find them in just about every town in your world. The hardest part of this method is actually managing to effectively use the dagger to defeat your enemies, without getting your brothers killed in the process.
Step 2: Separating the Armor From Its Owner
Now that we have some daggers we can work on getting our armor from the enemy. You can equip your brothers with the daggers immediately, or you can equip them as a secondary weapon. It will cost half a turn to swap weapons in battle, but it may be worth keeping a good primary first if there are a lot of enemies to defeat.
First of all, you want to remove any enemies that don’t have juicy armor. Using your main weapons, dispose of the stragglers in their ranks. Basically you want to leave the enemy with the nice armor for last. Once he is the last man standing, surround him with all of your dagger brothers and use the secondary dagger attack. This will do straight-up life points damage Yugioh-style while not breaking the armor.
Once this enemy is defeated and the battle is won, don’t forget to take your newly acquired armor as loot. You want to put this straight onto your men as soon as you get it. There’s no point having great armor to ‘save it’. You never know what will be around the corner.
Step 3: Wear or Sell The Armor and Move onto the Next Challenge!
With your newly acquired armor in tow, you can now keep your brothers better protected. Having some decent armor early in the game is the key to keeping brothers alive. One of the things that makes early game Battle Brothers so difficult is brothers constantly dying and having to spend all your money on new recruits.
If you’ve already got decent armor, this can be used as a great method of earning money. Whilst good money can be made with the weapons and goods trade, making a quick buck on armor should not be forgotten. Those early chain mail armors can also sell for hundreds…
