How to Raise Your Reputation in Battle Brothers

Battle Brothers is a mercenary sandbox where you will build your mercenary company the way you see fit. Will you build a team of raiders, destroying supply caravans on the road? Will you be a chivalrous band of heroes, saving villages from monsters and bandits alike.

There is a metric in the game known as Reputation. This governs how the other factions and houses perceive your company. In reality this mechanic is rather lackluster. I will talk a little about the Reputation in Battle Brothers and How you can Raise (or lower) yours.

What Does Having a High/Low Reputation Do in Battle Brothers?

As mentioned above, your reputation can get higher or lower depending on the actions and choices your party makes. From time to time you will come across random events in the game. Some of these events will have different choices and depending which choice you make your reputation will raise or lower.

Unfortunately there isn’t really too much to the reputation in Battle Brothers. The reputation mechanic seems like it wasn’t really implemented and developed too far in the base game. Apart from having different reputation titles there is one difference a change in reputation can make. In the Oathtakers origin, your company may get an event if your company has a reputation below 40. In this event, all of your Oathtakers plus 50% of the rest of the party.

Apparently if one gets a bad enough reputation you can be given the ‘Raze Attached Location‘ Contract. If your reputation is too high, your party will not be offered this contract at all.

How to Check Your Reputation & Reputation Levels

There is only one place in Battle Brother’s UI where one can see the reputation of their party. This is often confused with renown and relations but it is in fact its own metric.

Showing where one can see their reputation level in Battle Brothers

To view your company’s reputation, open up the Factions & Relations and hover over the scales symbol with your mouse as in the image above. This will not show you exactly how much reputation you have, but give you a title based on your current level. You can view a list of the different titles below, and the amount of reputation you need to reach them.

Reputation Title List

Below you can see a full list of all the different titles for reputation in the game. Once you reach this level, the word shown in the Factions & Relations tab will change.

How to Raise the Company’s Reputation in Battle Brothers

If you’ve made it this far knowing that raising your reputation does nothing and still want to raise it anyway, I’ll try my best to show you some of the ways you can do that. In general, the best way to do this is through events. It should be fairly obvious which is the morally right choice when it comes to events. Events such as the Slit Throat event is fairly obvious. You can decide either to slit the throats of a group of defeated mercenaries or take their weapons and chase them away.

an event in Battle Brothers where the company can gain or lose some reputation

As long as you decide on the options that aren’t rob this poor person, or kill/attack this group of innocent people you will generally end up with positive reputation.

How to Lower the Company’s Reputation

Lowering the reputation of the company is a lot easier than raising it. As you will generally be raising the company’s reputation through random events and contract decisions, you won’t get as many options to do so. If you are going for a bandit run, you can lower the reputation easily.

In general, always pick the more morally wrong choice when it comes to events. This will mean robbing from the poor, picking fights with other partys and finishing off enemies when they are on their last legs. You can also attack peasant groups and neutral partys to lower your reputation.
