What is Linen Thread?
Linen Thread is one of the crafting materials available to the player in Valheim. It is a hard spun type of thread that is created by putting flax through a spinning wheel. Linen thread is used in the crafting of armor set that is currently the best in the game defense-wise.
The in-game description for linen thread reads ‘A fine linen thread made out of strong flax filament.
How to Get Linen Thread
To get linen thread, you will have to first find flax. Once you have some flax you will have to insert the flax into the spinning wheel in order for it to be processed.

Getting a Spinning Wheel
Once you have defeated the fourth forsaken, Moder, you will be given a crafting resource known as dragon tears. Using the dragon tears, the player can create a crafting station known as the artisan table. Once the player has crafted an artisan table they should unlock the ability to craft a spinning wheel using the hammer.
To craft a spinning wheel using the hammer you will need the following items and materials;
- 20 Fine Wood
- 10 Iron Nails
- 5 Leather Scraps
- Within Range of the Artisan Table
After doing so, the player will be able to place down a spinning wheel. Once the player has placed the spinning wheel, they can begin to turn their hard-earned flax into linen thread in order to craft with it. There is no use to flax other than using it in farming to get more flax, or using it on the spinning wheel in order to create linen thread.
The spinning wheel can hold a total amount of 40 flax at one time. There is no items that need to be used as fuel for the spinning wheel such as coal. It simply works on it’s own without any input from the player. After a certain amount of time each piece of flax will be processed into linen thread at come out the output chute. The player can then walk over and pick it straight up off the ground to use it in crafting.
Simply walk up to the spinning wheel and place flax inside of it to start the flax processing. The spinning wheel only functions as a way to obtain linen thread. There is nothing else you can currently do with the spinning wheel.
Crafting With Linen Thread
There are a variety of different weapons and armor that are created using linen thread. The padded armor set is currently the best armor set available in the current version of Valheim. Blackmetal weaponry also hosts some of the highest damage of all the weapon classes in the game. Below, I will list every weapon and item available to craft using linen thread. - Padded Cuirass: 10 Iron, 20 Linen Thread
- Padded Greaves: 10 Iron, 20 Linen Thread
- Padded Helmet: 10 Iron, 15 Linen Thread
Weapons
The last tier of weapons currently available in Valheim are the Blackmetal weapons. You will need linen thread in order to craft and upgrade the best weapons in the game. All of these weapons are crafted at the forge. Alongside the Blackmetal weapons is also a blunt/pierce weapon called the porcupine. This weapon resembles a Morningstar.

- Blackmetal Axe: 6 Fine Wood, 20 Black metal, 5 Linen Thread
- Blackmetal Knife: 4 Fine Wood, 10 Black metal, 5 Linen Thread

- Porcupine: 5 Fine Wood, 20 Iron, 5 Needle, 10 linen Thread
