What Are Cloudberries?

Cloudberries are one of the types of berries that the player can find whilst exploring out in Valheim. They are quite large compared to the other berries in the game. They are yellow and round and somewhat resemble clouds, hence the name. They are a type of food which can be consumed in Valheim in order to raise the health and stamina cap of the player.

Along with being able to be consumed on their own in Valheim, the player can also combine cloudberries with other ingredients at the cauldron in order to make some different dishes in the game which will have better stats. The base buffs that cloudberries give when eaten on their own are 15 extra health and 25 stamina. They will keep the player sated for 800 seconds and will heal the player 1 health every ‘tick’.

Where to Find Cloudberries

Cloudberries can be found while exploring the plains biome. The player will be able to see small berry bushes on the ground. Due to the rather dense flora of the plains cloudberries are one of the easiest berries to located and obtain. Blueberries and raspberries can be quite difficult to obtain seeing as the forest is generally rather dense and the berries don’t seem to have high spawns. Cloudberries tend to spawn in large patches and like the other two berry types, will respawn once harvested.

Check on the ground and look for small plants that have little yellow round berries on them. Once you have found what you think is a cloudberry, approach the plant and press the E button to interact with the bush and release the berry from where it is. Be careful not to destroy the plant as the berries will respawn there in a few days time, allowing you to harvest from the same plant again and again.

Cloudberries will generally spawn in large patches so keep on the lookout.

What are Cloudberries Used For?

There are two main reason to collect and farm cloudberries when playing Valheim. There is a type of creature found in the plains known as a lox. One of the uses for cloudberries is to tame lox. The other use is to use the cloudberries as a food source. They can be both consumed on their own in order to provide a quick snack to the player, or brought to the cauldron to be used in some advanced cooking recipes.

Taming A Lox With Cloudberries

The lox creatures found in the plains can be tamed with cloudberries. This is their main diet. Once you have found a creature, you can attempt to catch it in either a hole created with a pickaxe or you could try to build a pen to trap the lox in. You can also just attempt to tame a lox while it is roaming around but this it not recommended as you never know where they are going to walk off too and if you get too close to a lox they will attack the player.

Trap the lox in an area and then simply drag the cloudberries out of your inventory. The lox will eventually walk over and eat some cloudberries off of the ground. Be careful not to get too close as even though they are in the process of being tamed, they will still attack the player, and if they can’t get to the player, they will attack their structures.

Cooking With Cloudberries

There is a wide variety of different cooking recipes available for the player to make. After the player can crafted a cauldron and put if over a lit fireplace they will be able to start cooking using different recipes. From the cauldron the player can create different meals to consume directly and create bases for mead that can be put into the fermenter in order to make, wines, potions and mead.

How to Farm Cloudberries

Farm will need a bit of context here for those confused. ‘Farming’ an item in videogames generally describes the act of collecting a bulk amount of an item as easy as possible and doesn’t always mean actually planting and growing crops and plants.

Cloudberries are quite easy to spot in the plains

The best way to get large amounts of cloudberries is just to roam around the plains. Find yourself a large plains biome and find a few large patches of cloudberries. Take note of where these patches of cloudberries are on your map by marking them down. Then, create a portal near this patch.

By doing this you can create a kind of cloudberry farm in which you can sprint around a track and collect a massive amount of cloudberries every time you run through. Portal in to the plains and to your little cloudberry route in order to collect them every 2 or 3 in-game days as they will constantly respawn on the cloudberry plants.

Growing Your Own Cloudberries

There is currently no way to grow your own cloudberries or any other type of berries in Valheim. This part of the page is merely here as a placeholder as one of the first major updates for the game is known as the hearth and home update. Along with more building materials and objects, the developers have stated that they will be introducing new cooking recipes and hopefully the ability to farm cloudberries will come with that.

There are no cloudberry seeds in the game or mentioned in the game’s files for now.
