How to Get Water/Drinks in Going Medieval – Settlers Thirsty

In Going Medieval your job is to grow a thriving medieval colony. You will have to build and research new technologies to advance your colony. You will also have to take care of the needs of your settlers. One such need is the thirst level. As in real life, settlers will start to get thirsty. How how do your quench your settler’s thirst? Read on.

Going Medieval and Thirst

Whilst playing the game you will notice that your settlers have needs. There are a few basic needs that your settlers expect to be fulfilled through your organization:

  • Their hunger need
  • Their thirst need
  • Somewhere to sleep
  • Recreation need
  • Religious fulfillment

With these base needs comes a bunch of other things that can happen. Having these fulfilled will generally keep your settler happy. That is unless something really, really terrible happens to upset them. The one we are going to focus on in this guide is thirst.

How to Stop Your Settlers Being Thirsty

Each of your settlers has a mood level. This can be accessed by selecting the colonist and selecting the correct icon. The little smiley face icon breaks down your settlers mood. As you can see in the above image, this settler is Desperately thirsty. Thirst will happen in multiple stages. If the settler has recently sated their thirst they will have a positive change to their mood. This will gradually go down as the levels of thirst happen to them.

If you want your settlers to be happy, you’d better have them start producing something to drink! In Going Medieval, your settlers are basically all a bunch of alcoholics. There is no way to create or find water. Only alcohol can be produced and drank. Once you have produced something to drink, your settlers will automatically consume this when they get thirsty.

There are a few different types of drinks you can brew in Going Medieval.

Thirsty No More in Going Medieval!

Your settlers will not have to be thirsty for much longer! This guide will show you the steps you need to take in order to start creating a drinkable resource. For starters, you will not be able to make anything. You will have to first research in order to learn how to brew your own drinks. If you aren’t sure how research works, check out this guide first!

Unlocking Brewing Research

First, you will have to unlock the research in order to make drinks. The research you will have to unlock is called Brewing. You will need to research Architecture, (as with everything) and agriculture before you can unlock brewing. In total you will need to create 45 chronicle.

Open up the research panel once you have 45 chronicles and unlock all three items. You will now be able to create the Brewing Station.

Building and Using the Brewing Station

Now that you’ve unlocked the brewing station you are able to build one in your colony. Another important thing to take into account before you event get onto making the station is this: You will also need plants to create drinks. It may be a good idea to start growing some alcohol-related plants early as they can take a number of days to grow completely.

With that out of the way we can build a brewing station. Open up the Production building menu by selecting the icon at the bottom left. Alternatively you can press the F2 hotkey, by default. Find the Brewing Station in this menu. You can only create it out of wood, there are no other variants. You are better off building it inside because if you build it outside there will be a production speed penalty of 20%.

Once the brewing station is built we are ready to get started on brewing! Just like every other production station in Going Medieval, you will have to assign specific products to the station’s production queue.

Brewing Drinks at the Brewing Station

Start by selecting the finished Brewing Station. Now, as you can see there area a few options to choose from! You can immediately see Ale, Beer and Rough Wine. Rough Wine is the quickest to brew so we will focus on that one for now. Select your drink of choice. If you hold your cursor over the icon you will be able to see what ingredients you need to create that drink. For the Rough Wine you will need 10 Red Currants to create a batch. Select this now.

Once you have selected a drink, you can edit the amount you want to make. You can make a set amount, keep a certain level in your stockpiles or just create the drink forever. Once your settlers have the necessary ingredients, they will bring them over and start processing them. Cooking settlers will mix the ingredients and put them into a barrel to ferment. You will have to wait until the alcohol is finished fermenting before you will finally be able to quench the thirst of your settlers. Once processed, just wait.

That’s all there is to it! You should have learnt how to keep your settler’s thirst in check now! You won’t have any more thirsty workers running around again in Going Medieval!
