Cryofall is a game about survival. Through building, technology and using the materials of the planet you can survive and thrive here. But where to start? one of the most important things to do at the start of your journey is build a base! But with a complicated technology system the game can be overwhelming at first. I’m going to go through the land claim system and how you can build your first base in Cryofall.
How to Research and Claim Land
Before you can claim your very own slice of the Cryofall map you’ll have to invest in some technology. The first time you arrive on the island you will not be able to claim land. This is where the technologies tab comes in to play. Open up the technologies menu by pressing G. You can also select the menu by clicking the appropriate button at the top of the screen. We are going to look for the Land Claim technology. Head to the Construction Tier 1 section. Your screen should look like the one below.
Once you have enough learning points you can unlock the first research here which is Land claim. This allows you to place down a land claim block and start building in an area. You should probably unlock the ability to build some walls and floors too! Now, you can start claiming an area of land and building up your base!
Building a Land Claim
Now that you’ve researched the ability to claim some land you are almost ready to get going. In order to build walls and floors you need to have the land claimed. To claim the land you will have to build a Land claim. First of all, we are going to have to make a toolbox before we can do any of that. To build anything in Cryofall you must have a toolbox in your hotbar at the bottom of the screen. you don’t always have to have it equipped, but you will need it in your bar. You can build a toolbox in your bare hands by pressing the C key. This will open the crafting menu. Find the toolbox in the list of available items. You can see this in the image below.
To craft the Simple toolbox you will need 10 twigs, 10 stone and 1 rope. The twigs and stone can be foraged from the ground and the rope you’ll have to craft out of fibers. Now that you have everything, craft a toolbox and you are ready to build! Once again, make sure the toolbox is in the bottom numbered bar of the inventory or you won’t be able to use it.
Building a Claim
Once you have a toolbox press the B button to open the Construction menu. Alternatively, select construction from the menu at the top of the screen. We are looking for the Land Claim in the build menu now. You can find the land claim under the Other tab. Keep in mind that once you place this down it cannot be moved. You can see the area that the land claim protects when you place it down.
When placing the land claim you can see that there are multiple areas with different tiers. You can eventually upgrade the land claim block to expand to these areas. Make sure you pick an open area when you place a land claim. You cannot build next to rock walls or by the ocean so keep that in mind when you are choosing an area to claim. Once you have the land claim you can start building around it. Open up the construction menu with B and you can place wooden walls and floors around your claim.
Cryofall You’re Not the Land Owner
If the player tried to build in an area without first placing a land claim they will see the message “You’re not the land owner”. Before you want to build a base make sure you have a land claim in that area first. That way you won’t get stick with this message. Another common mistake with building is that you cannot build too close to another player’s area. If a player has claimed an area for themselves your land claim area cannot intersect with theirs.
How to Upgrade the Land Claim in Cryofall
The player also has the ability to upgrade their land claim. by upgrading the land claim the player will gain more area in which to build and their structures with have a little more HP. When the player is offline there is also a timer which will count down on the area. This makes the structure invincible to other player’s attacks for a short while. It may be around 24 hours to begin with but this can be increased with every upgrade to the land claim block. This time is different per server so check the server settings to know what the protection time is.
To upgrade your land claim walk up to it and press the right mouse button. This will open the menu where you can interact with it. There are a few tabs here but the one we are focusing on is the Main tab. Here, you can see which items are needed in order to upgrade the land claim to the next tier. You can also see how large the area of the next tier will be. Simply collect the items and press the Upgrade button in order to upgrade your land claim to the next tier.
