How to Repair Tools and Armor in Cryofall

Long tine players of crafting survival games are used to the idea of item durability. Just because you’ve grinded enough materials to finally craft that awesome new axe, doesn’t mean it will last forever. In Cryofall items also have durability. Things will eventually get worn down and break. This will not only include weapons and tools, but armor as well. Luckily though, there is a way to repair your weapons and armor in Cryofall.

How to Repair Items in Cryofall

To repair items you are going to have to first craft a Tinker table. Here, you can input two broken items of the same type and use a unit of Duct tape to repair them. Simply open up the table, put all the items in and press the repair button. The amount the items is repaired will depend on your character’s Maintenance skill. Read below for a full guide on creating and using the Tinker table.

You’ll need two items of the same type to create a fixed version.

As there is a lot of steps involved in getting the materials to craft your items this guide will be a little longer than usual. I will go through unlocking the table, crafting the materials to repair weapons and armors and show you what you will need to do it yourself.

Unlocking and Creating a Tinker Table to Repair Tools

The Tinker table is the workbench where you will be repairing all of your items in Cryofall. As it is almost essential to recycling your items, it is unlocked pretty early in the game. You can unlock the tinker table by going to the technologies menu and selecting Construction under Tier 2. Here, you can find the research blueprint to craft your own Tinker table.

You’ll have to learn how to craft the tinker table before you can build it

As you can see from the image above, researching the tinker table will also unlock the Duct tape item. This Duct tape is an essential material to repairing items. Once you have researched the Tinker table you will be able to place the blueprint down and build it using the toolbox item. You’ll need 50 wood planks and 5 Steel ingots to build the Tinker table. Once the table is built, you can repair items by interacting with the bench using the right mouse button. As you can see upon looking at the tinker table screen, you’ll need 1 duct tape for every repair.

Crafting Duct Tape to Repair Armor and Weapons

In order to repair your things you will need duct tape. The duct tape is used up every time you do a repair. Unfortunately you won’t be able to craft duct tape at the tinker table or even in your character’s inventory. You will have to go back over to the workbench for that. Creating a unit of duct tape can be difficult when you are first starting out. As you can see in the image below, you will need the following items:

  • 5 thread
  • 5 Paper
  • 1 Glue

You’ll learn to hate trying to craft duct tape

To keep things as easy as possible, I’ll quickly run through how you can make these items.

  • You can craft thread by bringing fibers to the workbench and selecting the thread from the menu.
  • Paper is crafted by combining fresh water with wood logs. You can boil murky water or salt water at the campfire or cooking stove to get fresh water.
  • To create glue you’ll need sulfur powder (from the barren or rocky mountains), water and bones which can be collected from some animals.

As you can see it can be rather difficult to even create the duct tape to repair your items. Another thing to note is that you will need two of the same item and a duct tape in order to repair. One of the items and the duct tape will be consumed upon doing this.

Putting it All Together

Now that you have two half broken versions of the same tool or weapon, a unit of duct tape and a tinker table you can put it all together. Yes, it really is that difficult to repair items in Cryofall. There really isn’t any other great way of repairing items in the game yet unfortunately. To be honest, I can’t see this method being too useful as you’ll have to craft a second version of the weapon before you can even repair the first. Then, you may as well use up both of the weapons until they are at low durability. I guess it is great for space saving in your inventory as you’ll be getting rid of a tool every time you repair.

Do you know a better way to repair tools and armor in Cryofall? Maybe this mechanic is going to be changed in a future update as when I google the problem I only see a lot of people confused and angry about repairing in Cryofall. Maybe this one will be left to the modders. We’ll see.
