Cryofall is a survival crafting game. This means there are survival mechanics at play. Not only do you have your health and stamina pools, you’ll have to stay well fed and drink water. Figuring out how to make food to begin with is kind of difficult though. Cryofall’s blueprint system is a hard one to wrap your head around at first but once you figure it out, you’ll be cooking like a chef!
How to Cook Food
To cook in Cryofall, the most basic thing you’ll need is a campfire. Here, you will be able to cook the most basic of foods such as the meat skewers and roasted mushrooms. When you cook anything over a campfire in Cryofall, you are going to need a source of fire as well. Luckily for this, you’ll just need to collect some wood, or use charcoal to burn it. Drag your fuel into the fuel area, select a recipe and place the items in the proper areas. Now, just wait until it’s done and you have some food. Read below for a more in-depth guide.
Building the Campfire
Once you have managed to build a toolbox, you will unlock the ability to make a campfire as well. As campfire is the most basic, primitive source of survival you won’t need to research anything. You can place this down from the get-go. You will need to collect 10 twigs and 10 stone from the ground in order to build this campfire. Once you have the necessary items, press B to open the construction menu. Find the Campfire under the Food tab and select build. Now, choose an area to place the fire down. Now you have your very first campfire.
Using the Campfire
Once you’ve managed to build the campfire and placed it down you can start to use it! to interact with the campfire press the right-mouse button when next to it. This will open the campfire menu. From here, you will be able to interact with the areas of the campfire. There is an area for fuel, an area for ingredients and an output area. The only areas where you can put items are the Input and Fuel areas. For fuel, you’ll want to put wood or charcoal here to start a fire. You need some type of fuel to make a fire and cook food in Cryofall. Press the Browse recipes to see the available food recipes your character can make.
Once you have found something you like, select it as the current recipe. Now, put all of the items into the input of the campfire. you will have to make things in recipes as you go, before you can cook. If you do throw food into the input and have the recipe unlocked, you will see a pop-up telling you the recipe doesn’t match. You can apply the recipe that does match by selecting the option below the text. See the image below.
In this example, I placed the wrong type of mushroom into th ecampfire for the recipe. Luckily, the mushrooms that I did insert, create a different type of recipe. Given they are both roasted mushroom, but they have different effects as different mushrooms are used in the cooking recipe. If you put food in and the option to apply matching recipe doesn’t appear, you may not have that food researched. This means you will not yet be able to cook it.
Cooking At Different Stations
As you progress through the game you will unlock new methods of cooking. Yes, at some point you will be leaving the old campfire behind. Although the campfire is great for a primitive snack, you will eventually move on to the cooking table and cooking stove. At these stations you will be able to make more advanced cooking recipes. These will function in the same way that cooking at the campfire will. To unlock more recipes, you will simply have to unlock them in the Technology tree. These are all found under the cooking tab. Once you have crafted the cooking table and the cooking stove that is basically it for cooking devices.
Once you upgrade your technology you will be able to make some pretty satisfying meals. Make sure to couple this technology with the ability to farm as well. Most of the things that you will be cooking are directly related for farming. For example at the second tier of cooking you are able to make cucumbers pickled. You will have to grow these first in order to get the base vegetable.
