Cryofall is a difficult survival game. With the local fauna being less that friendly and raiders around every corner equally as inviting, you chances of surviving long aren’t great. Luckily Cryofall has a respawn system. Yes, this is no permadeath game. If your character is defeated you have a few options of respawning. In fact, you can even set your own spawn. This guide will show you how to set your spawn point in Cryofall on Steam.
What is a Spawn Point/Respawn?
In videogames death is generally not the end. (Bar some permadeath experiences). At some point you may be defeated in battle or just in the mechanics of the game. When a character is defeated they will eventually turn back up somewhere. This is called a respawn. Spawning, in videogames is the act of coming to life somewhere. In Cryofall, the player is able to choose where they would like to respawn if their character dies.
If you have managed to die in Cryofall, you’re probably familiar with this screen. This will allow you to choose where you will spawn. But how do you get to this point of being able to choose where to spawn? Check out the next section to setting up a spawn point.
How to Set a Spawn Point in Cryofall
Cryofall features a respawn system that many players of survival games will be familiar with. Much like other games in the genre you will have to build a bed. Once the bed has been constructed in Cryofall, simply walk up to it with your character and right-click to interact with it. You will be greeted with a message saying that the bed doesn’t’ belong to anyone. See the image below. Select the option which reads Yes to set this bed as your current spawn point. That is it, your spawn point is set and you can respawn here once your character is defeated.
Once this bed has been selected as your spawn point, if your character dies anywhere in the world you will be able to respawn at this location. At the death screen simply select the option to spawn at or near your bed.
How to Build a Bed in Cryofall
In Cryofall everything you will need to build has to be learnt through using learning points. To begin with, your character will only be able to craft the most basic of items from items they forage. As the game continues, you will be able to make more things. You can learn new technologies by pressing K. Alternatively, select the technology icon from the top of the UI.
Your character should already have the knowledge they need to craft a bedroll at the start of the game. But, before you can craft one, you’ll need a toolbox. To build a toolbox, you’ll need 10 twigs, 10 stone and 1 unit of rope. Rope can also be crafted from the main crafting menu. You can press the hotkey C to open up the crafting menu.
Once you have the toolbox in your quickbar at the bottom of the UI, you can build. To begin with the amount of items and structures you can build will be quite limited. As you progress in the game and learn new technologies you can make more things. With the toolbox in your inventory, press the B button to open up the construction menu. Alternatively press the construction tab at the top of the UI. Scroll over to the Other tab where you will find the bedroll. To build this you will need to gather 20 twigs and 20 fibres. Press the Build button and place it down somewhere. That’s all there is to building a bed in Cryofall.
Why Do I Need a Spawn Point?
Cryofall is a dangerous game. Even if you are playing the game alone there are plenty of things across the world that can kill you. From wolves to radiation poisoning, your character will meet an unexpected end at some point. Setting a spawn point will save you from having to travel across the ma to find your base again. Setting up a base is one of the first things you should try to do in Cryofall. As inventory space is limited, a base is a great place to store all of your items. Being able to spawn back here when you die, is obviously going to be very important.
Another great feature of the spawn point is the ability to spawn near your spawn point. This means that your character won’t spawn directly on top of your bedroll. This is a great idea if there is a danger around your spawn point. This danger could include NPC animals or even other players. By spawning near your spawn point instead of on top of it, you may surprise and get the better of your foe!
