When you first start your journey off in Cryofall the game is quite simple. The game will give you small quests to help you learn the game. For example, build a bed, use the bed and so forth. The beginning of the game is quite simple up to this point but once you get into the electrical and fuel refining, it gets a little tricky. One of the items that you can create is Mineral Oil. I am going to show you how to get mineral oil in Cryofall and show you what you can craft with it.
What is Mineral Oil?
Mineral oil is a liquid substance found in Cryofall. The in-game description leaves much to the imagination reading, “canister with mineral oil”. Really, mineral oil is a versatile substance which is great for creating things in Cryofall. One of the primary uses for mineral oil is crafting plastics. Using mineral oil and some other materials you can mass produce a lot of plastic.
Mineral oil whist being a liquid can only exist in containers in the player’s inventory.
How to Get Mineral Oil in Cryofall
Getting mineral oil can be fairly difficult in Cryofall. First, you have to build an Oil refinery. This is learnt in the tier 3 of Industry. Once researched and built, you can put petroleum into the oil refinery in order to process it into mineral oil and gasoline. You will also have to keep the oil refinery powered in order to keep it running. Once you have filled the powered oil refinery with petroleum, you just have to wait for the mineral oil to be processed. Then, you can place it directly into canisters. Read on for a step-by-step guide on how to get mineral oil.
How to Get Mineral Oil Step-By-Step
As the steps to producing mineral oil are very complicated and including a lot of steps I will break it down for those who still don’t understand.
Research the Technology
First, you’ll have to research the correct technologies to create mineral oil. For this, you’ll have to research tier 3 Industry. Press the G key to open up the technologies panel. The only ones we are interested in are the 3 down the middle. You’ll have to also unlock some previous technologies to be able to research these.
Once you have researched the oil refinery and the petroleum canister go back to your game. We are ready to start building the oil refinery.
Building
Now we will start building. Make sure you have crafted a toolbox otherwise you will not be able to build. First, we will build an oil refinery. This is where you will convert petroleum into mineral oil. We have already researched this in the previous step. Press the B key top open up the construction menu. Head over to Industry and select the oil refinery. You will need 10 steel ingots, 10 copper ingots and 20 dry cement mix to build this. You will notice in the tooltip that you can get fuel an mineral oil from this. Perfect!
Also keep in mind that the oil refinery runs on electricity. You will need some source of electricity to run this machine. It doesn’t matter what type of generator or source you build. I am running my oil refinery on an organic Bioreactor. Build an electricity source as well.
Getting Petroleum
Remember that other research under the il refinery that we researched? This is the petroleum canister. This is the source liquid that we will be refining into mineral oil in our refinery. In Cryofall a lot of the items and minerals are first foraged. The petroleum is no different. If you have been running around picking up random things you’ve probably noticed an item called Oilpod fruit enter your inventory. This is not for eating. Using Oilpod fruit and an empty canister you can create a canister full of petroleum. First, head over to the crafting workbench and craft a canister. You can craft a canister using plastics or metals.
Personally I prefer to use iron and copper to craft my canisters as plastic is a lot harder to come by. Once you have a canister you are halfway there. Go out and forage for a lot of oilpod fruit. These are the bushed which have little black round fruits on them. See the image below. Gather as much as you can. You will need 5 oilpod fruit to create a petroleum canister. Once you have these you can craft a petroleum canister at the workbench.
Process Petroleum into Mineral Oil
Now that you have your petroleum canister all of the hard work is done! Make sure you craft a few of them and head over to the oil refinery. you can open up the refinery by pressing the right-mouse button. Here you will see the refinery screen with many different areas. This might be a little confusing at first. I will break it down for you.
- On the left we have the input. This is the area where you place the petroleum canisters. The red bar shows how much petroleum is still in the refinery. This will all be slowly processed into gasoline and mineral oil.
- Then we have the green and yellow bars. This is how much gasoline and mineral oil are currently in the refinery ready to take out. The green is gasoline and the yellow, mineral oil.
- On the right we have the output for each liquid. To take the liquid out of the oil refinery, place an empty canister in one of the top boxes. For example in the image below I am taking mineral oil out of the oil refinery. Then, just drag the filled canister to your inventory.
The oil refinery will also tell you when it doesn’t have any power. It will only process petroleum if there is a power source. Don’t worry if the power cuts out. Nothing will be lost. You can configure some of the power settings on the right. This isn’t really necessary unless you don’t want it to draw too much power from your grid.
How to Store Mineral Oil
Now that you have mineral oil in your canisters you might be wondering what you will do with all these stacks of mineral oil. Luckily, you can transfer the mineral oil out of the cans and into liquid storage. This means that you won’t have to craft a thousand canisters to transfer all of your oil as well. In the construction tier 2 technology page you will find the wooden barrel. Once researched, you can build this barrel and store liquids inside of it. That way you can keep your canisters free.
Once researched you can build a wooden barrel using the construction menu. you will find the wooden barrel under storage. To store a liquid inside the barrel simply open the barrel up with the right mouse button. This will open up the barrel. you can now drag your full canister to the right side of the menu. This will store the liquid in the barrel. You can mouse over the colored bar to see how much liquid is stored in the barrel. Once a liquid is stored in a barrel you can see the colored symbol appear on the outside of the barrel as well as in the image above.
