Survival exploration game, Valheim has finally released into early access. The game has been met with an incredible reception and players are absolutely loving this crafting fighting Viking experience so far. The game has a current approval rating of 95% on Steam. One of the best we’ve ever seen for an early access title. Although the game has had a great launch there are some issues with one of these being that sometimes when players are logging out their games aren’t saving like they should automatically.
The Issue
Players, including myself are having an issue with the game where at some point the game no longer saves when pressing log out, or closing the game of Valheim. The issue seems to be mostly happening in single player whilst offline, as when starting a server the game periodically saves it’s state. Unfortunely there has not yet been an immediate fix for this issue but seeing as the game only came out a few days ago it would be unlikely to be fixed straight away. Luckily we at Set Ready Game have found a workaround or temporary fix to this bug.
Game Not Saving Fix
You can work around this issue by manually saving your game whilst playing Valheim.
As far as we know we are the first to discover this workaround so feel free to share it around with your friends if they have the game.
To manually save the game, open up your console by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard. You can type all different kinds of commands through this menu but the one we are going for is ‘save’.
By typing “save” (all lowercase and without the quotation marks) and pressing enter your game will save itself. This should help you if you are logging out and the game just shows a black screen. It seems, you can even leave the black screen running for more than 5 minutes and the game still won’t save automatically.
Summary
To manually save the world and characters, open the console with F5 and type save. Press enter.
This is a temporary fix to the problems. I’m sure the developers are aware and working on a fix but until then this will keep you fighting for Odin in Valheim.
